Speech Therapy & Play Therapy

Finger puppets are a small, low-tech tool that many speech therapists and play therapists keep within reach. Our felt animals are about 8 × 4 cm, sit on an adult's or a child's finger and have no loose parts.

Articulation practice: the lion roars for a rolled R, the elephant lifts its trunk the way the tongue lifts to the palate, the snake and the bee hiss and buzz for S and Z, and the cat's "sch" is easy to model. Frog and fish invite oral-motor exercises: puffing cheeks, stretching lips, tongue in and out.

Narrative and language: the fairy-tale set retells Little Red Riding Hood or the Three Little Pigs with the same characters in every session; the occupations set builds vocabulary around everyday roles. For minimal pairs, ask "Did the puppet say it right?" – the child corrects the puppet instead of being corrected.

Shy children often talk to a puppet before they talk to a therapist.
